THE ONE TRIUNE GOD
A DISCUSSION OF THE ONE TRIUNE GOD
Because so many people cannot think of God as being any larger than one physical being (much less three Spiritual beings in one), I have chosen to begin this discussion with an analogy between water in its three forms to the One Triune God which also takes three forms. This analogy should help to enlarge the concept of God that most people now have and help to promote understanding of the mystery of the Godhead that is indeed One Triune God.
Let us regard water vapor as being comparable to God the Father as both are invisible, have no odor and no taste, make no sound, and cannot be felt by those who are in the flesh. Actually water vapor is present everywhere (omnipresent) from the highest mountains to the dryest desert and in every nook and cranny of the earth, yet that presence goes undetected by human senses just as the omnipresence of God the Father goes undetected by human senses. God the Father is Spirit.
Comparing water in its liquid form to the Holy Spirit is Scriptural as Jesus made the same comparison in John 7: 38-39. Jesus said, "He that believeth on me, as the Scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive; for the Holy Ghost was not yet given, because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)"
The Holy Spirit must be compared to PURE water only in its purest form because the Holy Spirit is pure. Pure water cannot be seen. Hold it up in a clear glass and you cannot tell that the glass has any water in it. Pure water has no taste or smell. If we think we see, smell, or taste water, we are really seeing, smelling, and tasting the impurities that are in the water.
Like pure water, the Holy Spirit cannot be detected with our four senses of sight, smell, hearing, or taste. But we can feel pure water just as we can feel the effects of the presence of the Holy Ghost, providing He allows us to feel His Presence. Also, like water, The Holy Ghost can be found anywhere God’s laws allow Him to be found. I believe it is fair to say that The Holy Spirit is a "condensed" form of God, just as water is water vapor in a condensed form. Keep in mind that we feel the presence of the Holy Ghost only if He stirs our emotions--love, joy and remorse, for example. We feel his presence in our souls, rather than with our five senses, per se. He comforts those who have received Him, and He satisfies our spiritual thirst just as water satisfies the thirst of our physical bodies. He can make us laugh and cry, if we have a need to express these emotions to cleanse our souls just as bathing in water can cleanse our bodies.
Naturally, we must compare water in its solid form, ice, to Jesus. At this point,
I should remind you that very few analogies or metaphors apply in all points. Jesus, for example, is not cold as we think of ice as being cold. When Jesus said that He would return as a "thief in the night," He obviously was referring to "suddenly" and not "in secret" as a thief, because He made it very clear that when He returned, "every eye" on earth would see Him and the whole earth would mourn.
Nevertheless, Jesus did enter into the world in a "solid" form, which could be observed in all ways with our physical senses. Since He promised to return just as He left, we must believe that we will be able to see, touch, hear, and my dog will be able to smell and--with His permission--even taste Him when He returns.
Since water vapor can condense to become a liquid and water can freeze to become a solid without changing its basic properties or characteristics, then it should not be difficult for us to imagine that the Godhead can express Himself in three different forms without changing His basic characteristics. Those known characteristics of God the Father are omnipresence, omnipotence, and omniscience. Now, omnipresence is not a characteristic of liquid water or water in its solid form. However, both the Holy Spirit and Jesus have a Spiritual connection to the Father, as they are one in spirit.
In the beginning, the nature of Jesus was strictly like the nature of the Father. He was a Spiritual being with all the characteristics of His Father, because Scripture states that He came out of the bosom of His Father. God the Father is neither male nor female and had no need for a "female" to conceive and give Spiritual birth to His Only Begotten Son. Just as cats give birth to cats, dogs give birth to dogs, and all animals produce their own kind, then we can take for granted that God’s Only Begotten Son is God. ("Begotten" means God literally gave birth to Jesus.) God did not give birth to any man or angel who are creations by God. Jesus is One with God, and since they are both Spiritual in nature with characteristics like water, they could be as One. I will explain.
Perhaps, a little different approach to the water analogy to help our understanding, would be to consider the verses in John 16: 27-28. Think of God the Father as water in a pitcher and consider the idea of the water being poured into a glass. Finally, stretch your imagination to think of water in little communion glasses as having been poured from the glass (Jesus) into all believers who accepted Him as their Lord and Savior.
Jesus promised to share His Spiritual Body with all believers, making us part of His Spiritual Body. By thinking of the water in the pitcher as being the same water poured into the glass, then poured from the glass into the communion cups, you should be able to understand that the Spirit of God is the same Spirit poured into Jesus then poured into all believers.
At this point, consider the aforementioned verses from John. "For the Father Himself loveth you, because ye have loved Me, and have believed that I CAME OUT FROM GOD. I CAME FORTH FROM THE FATHER, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father."
I ask you again to think of Jesus as coming forth from the Father as water comes forth from a pitcher and fills a glass. Jesus came forth from the Father and was poured--literally poured--into Mary’s womb. That makes sense to me. Also, you can better understand other mysteries by thinking in these terms.
For example, we can easily understand why Jesus said that God the Father was greater that He, because the water in the pitcher is greater in measure than the same water in a glass. Also, the water in the glass is greater in measure than the water in communion cups, BUT IT IS ALL THE SAME WATER AND HAS THE SAME CHARACTERISTICS. If we understand all of the above, then we can also believe that we can do what Jesus did by that same Spirit. However, we receive that Spirit in the measure that He (as our head) agrees to give us. One of the characteristics that the Spirit of God is willing to share with us is faith to remove mountains, if we demonstrate that we can be trusted to handle it. Obviously, some of us are capable of handling a greater measure of God’s Spiritual nature than others, and some of us may be willing to settle for less, simply because we do not want all that responsibility. Those with a large measure will certainly be attacked (persecuted) by Satan in a much greater measure.
Do you have questions? For example: Which is older? Is it the water in the pitcher or the water in the glass? Is it fair to say that they are the same age just as God the Father and God the Son are the same age--from the beginning? Which is greater? Is it the water in the pitcher or the water in the glass or the water in one of the communion cups? If you are speaking of quantity rather than quality, it is Scriptural to speak of a different measure of Spiritual qualities. God the Father has an unlimited measure, and God the Son and God the Holy Spirit have access to that unlimited measure with the permission of God the Father. We have access to the measure that Jesus, Our head, gives us permission to use. I am deeply grateful that I have access to that power for the asking as long as I need it and am not planning to abuse that power.
Jesus--I am certain—was grateful that He had a greater source of power to draw on when He agreed to become a very vulnerable human being with the same temptations and physical characteristics that we all have. As mentioned in Philippians 2:: 7-8," but made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross."
Again, I will raise the question. Who has the best qualifications, characteristics, or attributes? And again, please consider the properties of water. Are the properties of water in the pitcher different from the properties of water in the glass or in the communion cups? Or are they the same? Jesus is the Father and they are the same. If you have a better understanding of that fact, then you should have a better understanding of other sayings of Jesus.
Jesus said according to John 14: 23, "If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and WE WILL COME UNTO HIM AND MAKE OUR ABODE WITH HIM." Obviously, Jesus was saying that He would regain the Spiritual nature of the Father (Omnipresence) when He returned to the Father, and could share that Spiritual nature, which is the same as the Spiritual nature of the Father, when He returned to the Father after His ascension into Heaven. As a man, he gave that particular characteristic up, but He regained it after He arose. John explains in chapter 7: 8 that Jesus could not share His Spirit until He was glorified. Jesus had promised that no man would thirst after they received the Holy Ghost, which could not happen until Jesus was with the Father and He regained the Spiritual power to be omnipresent.
Jesus has all the other characteristics of the Father that no other being has--neither the angels nor Satan, who is a fallen angel and only a creation. Satan cannot create or heal, nor does he have the power to give life. He only has the power to destroy by deceiving us into using our own power to destroy ourselves and others and our environment, but he is a master at that.
On the other hand, Jesus created all things and is not a creature, and has the same powers of the Father to forgive sins, heal our bodies, raise the dead, and give eternal life. (Satan can withdraw persecution that he puts on us--such as sickness--but that is not the same as "healing," and He must withdraw it, if we command him to do so in the name of Jesus. If we ask Jesus to heal us, He can do so.)
Before continuing a discussion of the One Triune God, one needs to consider two persons of the Godhead separately. We will show first the Deity of Christ and the personality and Deity of the Holy Spirit before showing the UNITY of the Three-in-One Godhead.
THE DEITY OF CHRIST
In these last days the Bible tells us that many antichrists will try to deceive us--even the elect--if that were possible. I John 2: 22-23, says, "Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ ("The anointed One" or "Who has life within Himself")." Since only God has life within Himself, then Jesus is also God. John 5: 18, tells us, "For as the Father hath life in Himself, so hath He given to the Son to have life within Himself." Also, John 6: 53, "Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, Verily, I say unto you, except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink His blood, ye have NO LIFE in you." In John 14: 6, Jesus called Himself "the Way and the Truth, and the LIFE."
Not only does antichrist deny that Jesus is the Christ, but denies the Father-Son relationship of Jesus Christ to Jehovah. John 5: 18, "Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the Sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making Himself equal to God." If John stated as fact that the Pharisees thought that Jesus was calling Himself equal to Jehovah by calling Jehovah his Father and they wanted to kill him, because he made that claim, they must have believed that Jesus was claiming to be the long-awaited Messiah.
The Messiah was understood by the Jews to be the Promised Savior or Emmanuel (God with us). The Jews never at any time doubted that "The Christ" or "The Anointed One" was Jehovah Himself who promised to become one of them. They understood the prophecies. They just could not believe that the lowly son of a carpenter could be that Savior.
Jesus also made another claim that only God the Father could legitimately make. When explaining his right to heal on the Sabbath (breaking God’s law, according to the Pharisees), he said in Mark 2: 27-28, "The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the Sabbath." Only God the Father could make that statement when referring to Himself, which Jesus did.
I have already discussed the difference between being "begotten" by the Father and being created by God. Incidentally, in the Old Testament (Genesis), God states that "We" created all things. In the first chapter of the Book of John, John explains that The WORD was God in verse l. John explains in verse three that all things were made by the WORD. And in verse l4, John explains that the WORD was made flesh, and dwelt among us, "(and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father) full of grace and truth."
One law of mathematics says that equals can be substituted for equals. If the Word created all things and Jehovah created all things, the Word must be Jehovah, and if the Word is Jesus Christ, then Jesus Christ must be Jehovah. I do not have a problem with that conclusion, but then I never really had a problem with any mathematical problem. So, why is it that the alleged educated elite are the ones who obviously have a problem with simple mathematics?
Another test of an antichrist, because he cannot have the Holy Spirit, is found in
I Corinthians 12: 3, which says, "Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord ("Kyrios" or the Greek word for Lord God Jehovah, but by the Holy Ghost." Is not that a strange statement? Cannot anyone make a simple statement like "Jesus is Lord"? I have asked unbelievers to repeat that simple statement as a test. Try it!
You would be amazed at the negative reaction. They insist that they could say it, if they wanted to say it. But they steadfastly refuse to say it--even as a joke! Instead, they become angry, look away in embarrassment, or mumble something while pretending to laugh. I am convinced that no one can say, "Jesus Christ is Lord" with a straight face unless they have the Holy Spirit dwelling in them. Satan won’t allow it!
Do you believe that Jesus is Jehovah come down in the flesh? Then your salvation is assured. That is what Jesus Christ said and I believe Him. That does not mean, of course, that everything believers say is the Truth. We haven’t been perfected yet, but that is the one thing we must believe to be saved and be given eternal life.
Another statement made by John confirming that Jesus is Lord, is found in II John
1: 7, "For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist."
Again, I must remind you that the definition of Christ is "The Anointed One" or "The Only Begotten Son of God." The term, "Christ," is a description of who Jesus really is. It is not his last name. He is Lord!
In the Old Testament Jehovah says through the prophet, Isaiah 43: 10-11, "that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I AM He: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. I, even I, am the Lord; and beside me there is no savior." (The "I AM" in this phrase always refers to Jehovah and only Jehovah, and it is translated into the Greek as Ego Eimi. Jesus said of Himself, when asked if He were the Christ, "I AM," or Ego Eimi.) So many insist on saying that Jesus did not say that He
is Lord God Jehovah. It makes you wonder how these so-called authorities passed their elementary comprehensive reading tests, when Jesus admitted He answered to God’s exclusive names.
Only God the Father is called, Savior, in the Old Testament, but no one but Jesus is called Savior in the New Testament. The term is used to describe the Only Begotten Son, who was qualified to shed his blood as payment for the sins of all men. Paul says
in Titus 2: 13, "Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and Our Savior Jesus Christ;" We know that "the great God" and "Our Savior Jesus Christ" both refer to Jesus because they both are the objects of the verb "appearing" which God the Father can do only as Jesus; otherwise He is invisible to human eyes. Jesus is called both God and Savior in this passage, confirming His true identity again.
In Acts 4: 10-12, referring to Jesus of Nazareth... "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." In a previous verse, we learned that God the Father is the only Savior and in this verse we are given to understand that Jesus of Nazareth is the only Savior.
We know that there is only one God, therefore Jesus Christ and Jehovah must be the same God who is capable (surprised?) of taking the form of a man. Why not? Did not we admit that God is omnipotent or all-powerful, which is just another way of saying that He can do anything He wants to do except break his own Spiritual laws. (Natural laws He can break, but He would probably rather not as a rule interfere in such a way as to cause confusion. We are confused enough by what Satan does!)
A belief that Jesus is "a god" and not "The Lord God Jehovah" pervades all antichrist organizations. They love to quote John10: 29-36, to prove that there are many gods (polytheism) instead of just one God (monotheism). John quotes Jesus as saying, "My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. I and my Father are ONE. Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him. Jesus answered them, Many good works have I showed you from my Father: for which of those works do ye stone me?
The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God. Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, ‘I said, Ye are gods’? If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the Scripture cannot be broken; Say ye of Him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God."
Have you ever asked yourself why everything that Jesus said made the Pharisees so livid with rage that they wanted to torture Him and wanted Him dead? The reason is clear in the above passage. They believed every prophecy in the Hebrew Scriptures was true. Furthermore, they knew and "understood" Scripture--even had it memorized. They knew and understood that God the Father promised to come down to them and save them. They understood all these things in their own language, which was the same language spoken by Jesus, and did not need anyone to interpret or translate the Scriptures for them. So, what was the problem? They understood the Law upside down and backwards, and believed every word, literally. They had been praying for and expecting the coming Savior for generations, and HERE COMES JESUS, saying "I AM HE," the One whom their hearts had been yearning for.
The problem was that He just did not fit their notion of what the Savior would be like. Why not? Because Jesus fulfilled only 300 prophecies given to the Jews concerning the Messiah, but over 500 prophecies were given. The Jews paid more attention to the 200 prophecies which describe the Messiah as being a conqueror coming on a white horse (to be fulfilled at His Second Coming) than they paid to the 300 that He did fulfill, because they were looking to be set free from political oppression. They were not aware of their bondage to Satan.
What they did not understand was that political oppression is just a manifestation of spiritual oppression by Satan. Defeating Satan and redeeming the world from him had to precede salvation from governments. Incidentally, Jesus told Christians to come out of the world, because Satan is still god of this world and will not be put in chains until Jesus comes again, but Satan no longer has any power over Christians.
The bottom-line is that the Pharisees thought Jesus was a liar, even though they knew that He said He was Lord God Jehovah in many ways, and that is why they were angry at what they truly believed was blasphemy. In every single conflict that Jesus had with the Jews, who knew--and no doubt wanted to believe--that Jesus could indeed be the Messiah, they argued and accused Him of blasphemy.
Their disappointment over the fact that Jesus did not come as a conqueror to set them free from Caesar is the only possible explanation for their attitude toward Jesus. Also, of course, God’s plan was not to save Israel alone, but to give the Gentile nations a chance to be saved during the next 2000 years.
In any event, the Jews refused to acknowledge that He raised the dead and healed all kinds of incurable illnesses by the Holy Spirit of God. They said He had a devil, because they did not want to believe that He raised the dead and healed by the power of God. They knew the prophecies concerning these things, but they did not want to believe that this compassionate man who forgave their enemies was the promised Messiah.
The Jews did not want to hear that they were still in their sins unless they accepted Jesus as their Lord. They did not want a spiritual Savior, who promised them eternal life. They wanted the good life now. The only one who promises the good life in this world is Satan and he is the liar--not Jesus. But the fact is that The Lord blinded their eyes to the Truth, so that all could be saved.
As to whether there are "other gods" or not, Christians, Moslems, and Jews do not believe for one moment that there is more than one god. Only pagans teach many gods, such as New Agers, who are representative of Satan’s more vicious antichrist attacks. They teach that there are many gods, masters, avatars, and other prophets and teachers, whom they claim to be equal to or even greater than Jesus Christ. Some Christians have actually fallen for their propaganda. I sincerely pray that readers of this work return to spiritual reality in the name of Jesus, whose middle name is "Truth."
Incidentally, Jesus was quoting Psalm 82: 6, when He challenged the Pharisees concerning "other gods." "I have said; Ye are gods: and all of you are children of the most High (creations). But ye shall die (They do not have eternal life as the TRUE SON OF GOD WOULD HAVE.) like men and fall like one of the princes."
Why did Jesus quote that passage, if He knew the passage did not refer to the Messiah, which is who He claimed to be? For one thing, He knew that He was talking to the Jewish judges who knew very well that there was only one God. Furthermore, they knew that these "gods" were not the one true God that Jesus claimed to be. Jesus also knew that these literally minded Jews would not dare to argue with the letter of the law as it was written. They could not argue with Him on that point any longer.
I believe that when the son of perdition (The Antichrist) or Satan himself comes to rule the world for a short time that he will rule by distorting the Word of God. That is why so many might be deceived, because they do not spend time enough in the Word of God to know or understand when it is being altered. He will operate exactly the way he is operating now through his antichrist organizations--only more so. He claims we are gods, which is how he tempted Eve in the beginning.
BEWARE OF ALL NEW AGE TEACHINGS AND ALL PROPAGANDA ABOUT AN AQUARIAN AGE THAT WILL BRING IN A NEW MILLENIUM. DO NOT FOR ONE SECOND BELIEVE THAT OLD LIE THAT YOU ARE ALL GODS AND THAT AFTER MANY REINCARNATIONS YOU WILL BE WITH GOD OR WILL HAVE ACHIEVED NIRVANA. BUDDHA ADMITTED ON HIS DEATHBED THAT HE DID NOT ACHIEVE NIRVANA. IF HE COULD NOT ACHIEVE NIRVANA AFTER ALL HE SACRIFICED AND THE LESSONS HE TAUGHT, WHAT MAKES YOU THINK YOU CAN ACHIEVE IT WITHOUT JESUS CHRIST?
Another example of how the antichrist uses verses to deceive or cause confusion is Colossians 1: 15-17, "Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by Him were all things, created, that are in heaven and that are in the earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers; all things are created by Him and for Him; And He is before all things, and by Him all things consist."
Now one would think that this is clear, concise, and infallible proof that the Word of God is saying that Jesus Christ must be Jehovah, if He created all things, because Jehovah in all the known Hebrew Scriptures was the one and only Creator of all things. The whole verse states that Jesus Christ created all things most emphatically.
However, antichrist organizations point their twisted fingers at one little phrase, "firstborn of every creature," and insist that Jesus must be a creation Himself if He was the firstborn of other creatures. However, it should be obvious that He was first born of God as the Only Begotten Son of God before all other things were created by Him. A creature cannot create. A clay pot cannot make a potter. However, antichrist organizations grasp on to that one little phrase out of context and make a federal case out it.
The Watchtower actually adds a word to the above verse to make their point. They added the word, "other," to the above verse to make it say that Jesus created all "other" things--as though He was created Himself.
Other examples of this sort of deliberate distortions of Scripture in the Watchtower’s alleged translation from the Greek of their Kingdom Interlinear Bible are listed on the last page of Part V, "Be Not Deceived." The above-mentioned distortion was included. Anyone can see for one’s self in the Greek that is published alongside the Watchtower translation that there is no Greek word for "other" in the text.
Greek scholars present two different views concerning the exact translation of "firstborn of every creature." One group calls it the "genitive of comparison," (of all creation) and can be paraphrased as Jesus has first place in time and distinction from the genus," which makes Christ prior to and separate from all creation.
J. B. Phillips, who agrees with that interpretation, translates the verse to say, "He was born before creation began;" Goodspeed says, "born before any creature;" and Berkeley says, "the first-born before all creation." They are in agreement as to how the "genitive of comparison" should be understood.
The second group are more conservative and translate as follows: Today’s English Version says "First over all creation;" and New English Bible says, "His is the primacy over all created things." So that, even the most cautious translations still recognize that Jesus is not a part of creation, but is always above or before the creation. In context, of course, regardless of rules for translating from Greek into English, one knows that Jesus was "before all things," because that is what Paul said.
John 1: 1-3, are enough evidence for most Christians that Jesus is exactly who He said He was, Lord God Jehovah come in the flesh to save mankind. John said, "In the beginning was the Word (Logos), and the Word (Logos) was with God (Ho Theos), and the Word (Logos) was God (Theos). In the Greek, "Theos" means "Supreme Divinity." If the Word is Jesus Christ then we must believe that the Word of God states the He is God the Father.
Furthermore, if we consider John 1: 14, to find out who John is referring to in verse one, we must be convinced. "And the Word (Logos) was made flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the Only Begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth." The Word must refer to Jesus.
Incidentally, "Ho" is a demonstrative pronoun that can be translated as "that," "one," or "the" to point to a particular one--not just any old god. For example, we say "the" president, as opposed to all other presidents. "Ho" cannot be properly translated as an article as one might say "the dogs." Yet, antichrists try to make their followers believe that "ho" can refer to "any old god."
Another glaring deceit is the mistranslation of "the Word was God" by reversing the phrase to "God was the Word." According to all Greek scholars (agnostics and atheists as well), that misrepresentation is a deplorable breach of one of the most rigid and respected rules for translating from the Greek. In the original Greek, "Theos" is placed first for emphasis, but it is inconceivable, say the experts, for anyone to believe that "Theos" refers to "a god."
In Acts 28: 6, "Theos" is translated as "a god," because "Theos" is NOT placed at the beginning of the sentence. At the end of Part V, "Be Not Deceived," I have included other examples of gross mistranslations in the Kingdom Interlinear Bible and comments made by highly regarded Greek translators.
Another fact that antichrist organizations choose to ignore is that Jesus was literally worshipped on many occasions by his followers and his Disciples even though all Jews knew that the Ten Commandments strictly forbid anyone to worship any other god than the One True God, Lord God Jehovah. Yet, at no time did Jesus rebuke his Disciple for calling him, "Lord," "Master," "My God," or "The Christ." Jesus did say, however, "Call no one, Master, except the Father in Heaven." Yet, many times, the Disciples addressed Jesus as "Master," and He did not rebuke them. Why not?
In case you have forgotten the Commandment in Exodus 34: 14, it is: "For thou shalt worship no other god: for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God." Punishment for idol worship or worship of any man was severely punished in the present life of a Jew and assured eternal damnation without reprieve. That may not seem like a threat to an unbeliever, but it is cause for great terror for those who do believe--and the Jews believed in obeying and enforcing the Law of Moses.
Examples of times that Jesus was worshipped on earth before His Resurrection are: In John 9: 36-38, when a blind man worships Jesus; In Matthew 2: 10-12, when the Wise Men worshipped Him; In Matthew 14: 32-33, when the disciples worshipped Him;
and in John 20: 26-28, when Thomas worshipped Him (after the Resurrection, but before the Ascension).
All other examples of worshipping any man were sharply rebuked: See Acts 10: 25-26, in which Peter rebuked Cornelius for falling down at his feet in worship, but Peter took him up, saying, "Stand up, I myself am a man."
In Matthew 4: 10, Jesus tells Satan, "For it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and Him only shalt thou serve." in response to Satan’s offer to give Jesus the whole world, if Jesus would worship him. Anyone who believes that Jesus would permit others to worship Him without rebuke must also believe He is a hypocrite--unless Jesus really is Lord God Jehovah come down to earth in the flesh. Either Jesus is a great teacher and a prophet, or He is a hypocrite. Many antichrists try to have it both ways.
Jesus is not a creation, and therefore, He cannot be an angel either. Yet, antichrists would have you believe that He is the greatest archangel, Michael. Satan is described as being Lucifer, the greatest of all angels before he rebelled against God the Father and was cast down to earth. Naturally, Satan really delights in convincing others that Jesus is just another angel, who is less powerful than he is. Does any Christian believe that? Does any fool believe that? Think about it from Satan’s point of view, and you will know that reducing Jesus to the status of an angel must be a Satanic lie!
Another form of worship is prayer. Did the disciples pray to Jesus directly, or did they just pray in His name? Consider these examples: In John 14: 14, in which Jesus says, "If you ask me anything in my name I will do it." Here Jesus is playing the roles of Himself by saying "ask Me" and "in My name" and also God the Father by saying, "I will do it."
In that same verse, the Watchtower leaves the word "Me" out of the phrase "If you ask Me," to keep their followers from knowing that Jesus is suggesting that the disciples can pray directly to Him for anything they want or need. The only reason that this society deliberately adds and takes away words not in the original Greek is to prove their private doctrines that they cannot prove any other way.
Other examples of Scripture that gives an account of the Apostles praying to Jesus are: Acts 9: 6, in which Paul asks Jesus, "Lord, what will you have me do?" In Acts
7: 59, Stephen prays to Christ, "Lord, Jesus, receive my spirit," Also, in Acts 9: 20-22, Paul preached, "all that heard him were amazed, and said; Is not this he that destroyed them which called on this name in Jerusalem?" (This statement refers to the fact that Paul persecuted those who prayed to Jesus.) Paul, as Saul before his conversion, was given power to bind all that call on the name of Jesus in prayer, according to
Acts 9: 14.
And to whom are we all instructed to pray in Revelations 22" 20, "Amen, Come Lord Jesus." See I Corinthians 1: 2, "Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ, Our Lord," and I Timothy 1: 12-17, "And I thank Christ Jesus, Our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry"…Paul ends this prayer at verse l7, saying,... "Now unto the King eternal, immortal invisible, the only wise God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen." Paul begins the prayer by addressing the Lord Jesus and ends the same prayer by addressing Him as "the only wise God."
Jesus had many names and all of them describe His nature. One such name was given before His birth in a prophecy as recorded in Matthew 1: 23, "Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call His name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is God (Theos) with us. The name that an angel told Joseph to call Mary’s son was Jesus, which literally means, "The Lord is Salvation."
Isaiah, the prophet, also received a prophecy in Isaiah 7:; 14 for King Ahaz that a child would be born, and as a sign of deliverance and safety, the child would be called, Emmanual. That prophecy was fulfilled in Jesus and it was repeated to confirm that Jesus was indeed "God with us."
The Jews knew of this prophecy and it is just one of many that made them believe that the Messiah would be Jehovah Himself. They believed that they should fall down and worship Jesus or accuse Him of blasphemy for calling Himself Jehovah and kill Him. They decided to kill Him because He did not fulfill the prophecies they thought would set them free from Roman tyranny. Jesus made it clear to His disciples that those two hundred prophecies would not be fulfilled until his Second Coming so that all men--not just the Jews--would have the opportunity to hear the Gospel and be saved. Unfortunately, we Christians have not been as convinced of that fact as we probably should be, and certainly we have not made that fact as well known to others as we should.
Another prophecy is in Isaiah 9: 6, which tells of the birth of the Savior or "God with us." "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace."
The Jews knew that this verse also was saying that Jehovah would be coming Himself as a newborn baby to be with them, which is why they accused Him of calling Himself, Jehovah. If they had believed Him, they like the apostles, would have worshipped Him. They knew that He called Himself, Jehovah, even if some try to make those who do not speak Greek or Hebrew believe that Jesus never claimed to be Jehovah. Then why did the Jews accuse Him of blasphemy, if He did not call Himself, Jehovah? Check those passages in which the Jews who spoke and understood the words of Jesus perfectly, even if we do not, and then ask yourself why they wanted to kill Him. Look at the words of Jesus carefully and you will see that He was calling Himself, "Jehovah." If you cannot see that, you are the one who does not understand. The Jews had no problem understanding what Jesus said, and they hated him for saying it.
Some antichrist organizations quibble over the words, "Mighty God," which they willingly admit apply to Jesus, but refuse to admit that "Mighty God" refers to Jehovah. However, Jehovah is called "Mighty God" (not "Almighty God" which the dissenters insist is the only way Jehovah should be referred to) in the following verses:
Genesis 499: 24; Psalm 50: 1; Psalm 132: 5; Isaiah 10: 21; Jeremiah 32: 18; and Habbakuk 1: 12.
Another verse that has been garbled for the sake of deceiving is Philippians 2: 6. This verse tells us that Jesus did not think it was robbery to be seizing or grasping equality with God or did not think it was robbery to be equal with God, because He WAS equal to God. Two versions of this verse are quoted below:
(KJV) "Who, existing in the form of God, counted not the being on an equality with God a thing to be grasped." Verses 7 and 8 continue, "But made Himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross."
Considering the context of the whole passage, Paul could not have said as some would have their followers believe, "Jesus did not grasp at equality with God."
In Exodus 3: 14, we read, "And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and He said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you." It is very clear that Jehovah is identifying Himself by calling Himself, "I AM." This phrase or name for Jehovah is translated into the Greek as Ego Eimi. One of the reasons that many readers of the Holy Scriptures miss the fact that Jesus is calling Himself, Jehovah, is probably they are not aware of the fact that Ego Eimi or I AM is what Jehovah calls Himself. Following is the best known example in which Jesus calls Himself, Ego Eimi.
John 8: 57-58, "Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I AM."
Mark 14: 61-64; (The High Priest is speaking) "Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed? And Jesus said, I AM: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven." (The High Priest answers) "Ye have heard the blasphemy; what think ye? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death." The only thing that Jesus said in answer to their question was I AM, yet all the Jews declared that statement to be blasphemous and all agreed that He was guilty and should die. Jesus admitted that He was Jehovah, I AM, and they did not want to believe Him.
The next verse is important to understand, if one wants eternal life. John 8: 24, is a warning from Jesus: "I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I AM HE (Jehovah), ye shall die in your sins." This verse alone has inspired me to do the necessary research to show that Jesus is indeed Lord God Jehovah come in the flesh. I have beloved relatives who have been deceived by the Watchtower Society who has convinced them that they must not listen to true believers concerning the real identity of Jesus. I pray daily that they learn the truth before it is too late. Bottom line: they worship another Jesus than the Only One by which they can have eternal life. John 13: 19, (Jesus is explaining why He gave his Apostles a prophecy.) "Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I AM HE (Jehovah)." He wanted us to know that when we saw the prophecies concerning the last days come to pass, then we would know for sure that they came from God the Father and we would believe and be prepared. Most important, we would not be terrified, but look up in hope.
John 13: 13, (Jesus is speaking to His disciples) "Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well: for so I AM." Jesus could not have said it any plainer, because only Jehovah can be called, "I AM," "Master," and "Lord." IMPORTANT: Jesus actually commends His disciples for calling Him by those names.
Other names that have been used only to refer to Jehovah in the Old Testament but are used to refer to Jesus Christ in the New Testament are "Redeemer" (to Jehovah in Isaiah 44: 6), and also "the first and the last" in the same verse. Jesus calls Himself "Alpha and Omega" and "the first and the last" in Revelations 1: 11.
One of the biggest obstacles to understanding that Jesus and the Father are one and the same is that they talk to one another. We talk to ourselves too, sometimes, but that really is not considered the same thing! It may require a bit of a stretch of one’s imagination, but the evidence all points to the fact that God is one God who is fully capable of expressing Himself in three persons. Why not? After all, He is God, and we as His creations are not supposed to recreate Him in our image.
I believe that is how I began this discussion, by suggesting that most of us try to put God in a box, and we need to enlarge our concept of the Most High God. I hope that I helped, because Satan is getting very nasty and I would hate to think my readers would have to spend as many years researching as I have done to prepare me to do this work. You may not have that much time!
I Corinthians 15: 28; "and when all things shall be subdued unto Him, then shall the Son also be subject unto Him that put all things under Him that God may be All in All." The good news is that we as believers will be part of that "All in All."
PERSONALITY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
The third member of the "One Triune God" is the Holy Spirit or the Holy Ghost as He is sometimes called. Since no one ever questions that the Holy Ghost is part of God the Father and considered Deity simply because He is God’s Spirit, I am not going to spend too much space to show the Deity of the Holy Ghost. What everyone questions is whether the Holy Ghost has His own personality or not. If He does, then He must have traits that would mark Him as being a separate personality from God, even though He is One with the Father.
I am considering three personality traits that all persons must have to be regarded as being persons: 1. A mind to think for oneself, 2. A will of one’s own, and 3. A capacity to express or feel emotion. If the Holy Ghost has these traits, then we are compelled to believe He is a person and not just a "force" to be used or tapped into by some who think they can control the Holy Ghost by engaging in certain mystical rituals. I contend that the only spiritual powers that can be contacted by mysticism are Satanic powers, and that is a very dangerous practice!
1. Evidence that the Holy Ghost has a mind of His own. Romans 8: 27, "And He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints..." He also has Knowledge. I Corinthians 2: 11; "He knows all the deep things of God."
2. He also has His own will. I Corinthians 12: 11; "But the one and the same Spirit works all these things, dividing to each one individually as He WILLS." The following verses show that the Holy Spirit speaks, creates, commands, guides, bears witness, and teaches indicating that He acts as one with His own will.
Matthew 10: 19-20, "But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak. For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you." (He speaks.)
Job 33: 4; "The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life." (He creates.)
Acts 13: 2; "As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them." (He calls and commands.)
John 16: 13; "Howbeit when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth: for He shall not speak of Himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will show you things to come." (He guides.)
Romans 8: 16; "The Spirit Himself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:" (He bears witness.)
John 14: 26; "But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you." (He teaches.)
3. The Holy Ghost has Emotions: He loves, grieves, and can be vexed.
Romans 15: 30; " Now I beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ’s sake, and for the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in your prayers to God for me:" (He loves.)
Ephesians 4: 30; "And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption." (He grieves.)
Isaiah 63: 10; "But they rebelled, and vexed His Holy Spirit: therefore He was turned to be their enemy, and He fought against them." (He can be vexed.)
SINCE THE HOLY GHOST DOES MEET THE QUALIFICATIONS TO BE CALLED A "PERSONALITY", THEN WE NEED ONLY TO SHOW THAT HE IS AN INDIVIDUAL TO QUALIFY HIM TO BE THE THIRD PERSON OR MEMBER OF THE ONE TRIUNE GODHEAD.
He is referred to as "To Ev To Auto" (The one and the same) in I Corinthians
12: 11. Since personal pronouns are applied to the Holy Spirit, that is further evidence that He is a Person and an individual. More examples follow:
Jesus said in John 14: 16-17, "And I will pray the Father and He shall give you another Comforter that He may abide with you forever; even the Spirit of truth whom the world cannot receive. Because it seeth Him not neither knoweth Him; but ye know Him for He dwelleth with you and He shall be in you."
John 16: 13-14; "How be it when He the Spirit of truth is come, He will guide you into all truth; for He shall not speak of Himself; but whatever He shall hear that shall He speak and He will show you things to come. He shall glorify me for He shall receive of mine, and shall show it unto you."
Isaiah 40: 13-14; "Who hath directed the Spirit of the Lord, or being His counsellor hath taught Him? With whom took He counsel, and who instructed Him in the path of Judgment, and taught Him knowledge, and showed to Him the way of understanding?"
All of the pronouns referring to the Holy Spirit are personal pronouns ("He," "Him," and "Himself") in the above verses. It goes against all rules of Biblical Hermeneutics to write these pronouns off as personification (or just "figures of speech").
These passages cited are from direct discourse, and not from poetic or illustrative Scripture context.
In addition to the above facts, we should note some important Greek words used pertaining to the Holy Spirit: EKEINOS = THAT MAN. "HE" IS A DEMONSTRATIVE PRONOUN, POINTING OUT AN INDIVIDUAL. Example: John 16: 13. He, "himself," = EAUTOS. That simply means that the pronoun, "Himself," is for emphasis or is an emphatic reflexive pronoun. Exact meaning is "his exact person." An example is found in I Corinthians 2: 14-16.
Finally, in the Greek, pronouns are often part of the verb. "LALESEI" means "He will speak," because "EI" is suffixed to the root verb. "ANAGGELEI" means "He will announce," because "EI" is suffixed to the root verb. Therefore, the suffix of the verb gives the gender, more often than the noun. That is why all modern reputable translations read "For the Spirit HIMSELF makes intercession" in Romans 8: 26. These are the reasons that we can clearly see that the Word of God is emphatic. THE HOLY SPIRIT IS A PERSON, AND AN INDIVIDUAL, AND THE THIRD MEMBER
DEITY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
Proof that the Holy Spirit is Deity is that He has God-like characteristics,
such as: Omniscience, Omnipresence, Omnipotence, and He is Eternal. The following verses show that the Holy Spirit has all four of these qualities:
I Corinthians 2: 10-11; "But God hath revealed them unto us by His Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? Even so, the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God." (Omniscience)
Psalm 139: 7-8; "Whither shall I go from thy Spirit. Or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold thou art there." (Omnipresence)
Luke 1: 35; "And the angel answered and said unto her (Mary), The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the Power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. (Omnipotence)
Hebrews 9: 14; "How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the ETERNAL SPIRIT offered Himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? (He is Eternal) Evidence that the Holy Spirit is Deity is that He keeps the promises made by both Jesus and Jehovah. Jesus promises in Hebrews 13: 5... "I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee."
Jesus also promises that He and Jehovah will abide with us in John 14: 23, "Jesus answered and said unto him, if a man love me he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and WE will come unto him, and make our abode with him."
In John 16: 7; Jesus tells us, "Nevertheless, I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, THE COMFORTER (Holy Ghost) will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send Him unto you." Obviously, Jesus would not fail to keep a promise so the Holy Ghost must be equal to Jesus and Jehovah--He must be God.
As one can understand by comparing the above verses, The Holy Ghost, Jesus Christ, and Jehovah are one and the same Triune God. They are co-existent, co-equal, and co-eternal, or how could they ALL inhabit one man as promised unless they were ONE GOD?
Acts 5: 3-4; is another example where the Holy Spirit is regarded as being one with God the Father. "But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? While it remained, was it not in thine own power? Why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? Thou hast not lied unto men, but unto GOD." First, Peter tells Ananias the he lied to the Holy Ghost and then he says Ananias lied to God, because the Holy Ghost and God are one and the same.
THE UNITY OF THE THREE-IN-ONE GODHEAD
Genesis 1: 1; In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. (One God)
Genesis 1: 26-27; "And God said, Let us make man in OUR image, after
Our image, after Our likeness:" (One God but He is plural) "So God created man in His own image (God is singular here), in the image of God created He him: male and female created He them."
You will notice that the first-mentioned verse and the last-quoted verse speak of God as singular, but in the second verse God speaks of Himself as being plural. The only explanation for this reference to Himself as being both a singular being and a plural being is that He is both or He is a Three Person in One God. Please observe that the plural nature of God is evident in the first book of the Holy Word of God.
The idea of the Trinity did not just pop up 350 years after Christ died as some cult leaders would have all men believe, even though the word "Trinity" to designate the three person nature of the Godhead was chosen in the fourth century. The term was adopted to combat the heresy that was introduced by heretics at that time. The Church fathers saw a need to explain the somewhat mysterious concept of a God who could appear in three forms, so they referred to Him in a way they hoped could be understood. They also adopted various creeds to recite, that described the "God in Three Persons" nature of the Godhead.
God the Father, God the Holy Ghost, and God the Son as One God is first mentioned in Genesis and last mentioned in Revelations in which both the Lord Jesus Christ and Lord God Jehovah claim to be the First and the Last and Alpha and Omega. (Jehovah in Revelations 21: 6; and Jesus in Revelations 1: 8; 1: 11; and 22: 13.)
False teachers were in the Church at the time of the ministry of the Apostles on earth and they taught that Jesus was not a member of the Godhead, insisting that His Resurrection was not a bodily Resurrection but a spiritual one. That false doctrine was condemned in I Corinthians 15: 12-14; This cult may have been the root of this heresy, which is like a tenacious weed that keeps coming back to choke the good wheat and fruits in the Christian gardens. Every generation of Christians must find ways to rid itself of this nuisance.
Gnostics claimed to have the "only true revelations," just as the cult mentioned above claimed. The Ariens in the fourth century (followers of the heretic, Arius) claimed Jesus was a son and could not be God. These heretics also denied the Deity of Jesus. All of these early cult members were branded as heretics by the early church. How can anyone say then that "Trinitarians" were the ones who went against basic church doctrine?
The only reason the church felt compelled to adopt the term, "Trinity," and define it precisely is because grievous wolves such as the Ariens and Ebionites were creeping into the Church and attempting to undermine the Deity of Christ in which we must believe or we cannot be saved!
As a means of ensuring that all members of the Church understood the concept, the church fathers defined their position in the Nicene Creed and the Athanasian Creed, which they asked their congregations to repeat as part of the ritual to be recited during their church services. As part of their catechism, children were asked to memorize these creeds to ensure their faith that was important to their salvation.
The doctrine was taught in the same spirit that compelled the Jews to write the Laws of Moses on their door posts and repeat them daily to their children. Most Christians have sung songs repeatedly which spoke of the Trinity and made references to the Three-in-One God, and most of us were baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and The Holy Ghost. However, very few of us admit to understanding fully the mystery of the One Triune God.
The Word of God agrees that it is a mystery. In I Timothy 3: 16, "And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory."
What may be more frustrating to some is that no one can say that Jesus Christ is Lord except by the Holy Spirit, and that Holy Spirit must be living in that person before he can hear the voice of the Holy Spirit. But that is not all! No one can have the Holy Spirit unless that person believes that Jesus Christ is Lord God Jehovah come in the flesh. That all sounds like a no-win situation.
Fortunately, God has the solution to every problem. He calls Christians into service to teach the Word of God by the Holy Spirit who draws persons to the Truth.
Furthermore, He tells us that we can overcome Satan by our testimony. We can tell others what the Lord has done for us and tell them that He will do the same for them, because He loves all and came to save all. I have written this discourse as a teaching from God’s own Word, because the Holy Spirit can speak to your hearts through careful study of His Word.
I pray that those who read this discussion are led to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior on faith alone, and--upon receiving--come into the knowledge and understanding that Jesus Christ is indeed Lord. The answer for many unbelievers rests with those Christians who are already born in the Spirit and realize that "This generation shall not pass" before Jesus returns.
Jesus gave us the Great Commission to win souls, and I believe we are all responsible for doing just that--not as preachers or Evangelists, necessarily--but as witnesses who are willing to tell our friends and neighbors the Good News about what Jesus did for us. Matthew 22: 19; "And Jesus came and spake...Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost."
An interesting fact as to exactly how the Apostles carried out the Great Commission confirms the Deity of Jesus Christ even more. If you study this commandment, you will notice that "Father," "Son," and "Holy Spirit" are not names but they are descriptive words concerning their relationship to one another. "Jehovah" is the name that Jews used to address God the Father but was not believed to be His real name, which was unknown, or too sacred to be pronounced. I have copied a paragraph from Funk and Wagnall’s Encyclopedia which explains how the name, Jehovah, became God’s title.
"JEHOVAH: name of the God of the Hebrew people, as transliterated from the Hebrew Masoretic text. The word consists of the consonants JHVH or JHWH, with the vowels of a separate word. AdOnAI (Lord).....Because of the interpretation of such texts as Exodus 20: 7 and Leviticus 24: 11; the name came to be regarded as too sacred for expression; the scribes in reading substituted ‘Lord.’.....Evidence indicates that the early Greek fathers used shortened forms of the name which was originally pronounced Jahweh (Yahwe).....The older interpreters explain the verb in a metaphysical and abstract sense; the "I AM" is He who is", or the absolute existent."
Perhaps, those are the reasons that the Apostles baptized according to the way described in the following verses:
Acts 10: 48; "And he (Peter) commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord." (In this verse, Peter substituted "Lord" for Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost.)
Acts 8: 16; "(For as yet He was fallen upon none of them; only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)" In this case, the believers had been baptized in water in the name of the Lord Jesus that was substituted for the names Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. This fact certainly indicates that the Apostles believed that the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost were One Triune God and His name is Lord Jesus. Another Example:
Acts 2: 38;"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins,..."
Also, Acts 19: 5; "When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus." Actually, I found no examples in Strong’s Concordance of the Apostles baptizing exactly as directed in The Great Commission, yet I cannot in my wildest dreams imagine that the Apostle’s would deliberately, or even carelessly, disobey Our Lord. Would you? DO YOU? If you deny that Jesus Christ is Lord God Jehovah come in the flesh, I suspect you are disobeying Our Lord. If you are not sure, then read this discourse again or read the following verses that may just be what you need to further convince you.
Matthew 10: 1; "And when He (Jesus) had called unto Him His twelve disciples, He gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease." (Only God has power over demons.)
Matthew 12: 28; "But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the Kingdom of God is come unto you." (The Holy Spirit casts out devils so He is God)
John 3: 2; "For no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with Him." (No man--Only God--can perform these miracles.)
The following verses show how the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost work together as
One God:
John 14: 26; "But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in MY NAME (Jesus is speaking), He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you."
Ephesians 2: 18; (Paul is speaking) "For through Him (Jesus) we both have access by One Spirit unto the Father."
The Apostle states in Matthew 3: 16-17, "And Jesus, when He was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon Him: And, lo, a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." All three persons are present in one location, but there is only One God.
I John 5: 7; "For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost and these three are one."
Will you please accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Master by the Holy Spirit to be reunited with the Father? Then you can legitimately include yourself in the Body of Christ and say, "We are One." Praise God!
ANTICHRISTS MASQUERADE AS CHRIST
John 3: 16; "For God so loved the world that he gave His only Begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on Him shall not perish but have everlasting life."
The two operative words in this verse are "Only" and "Begotten." "Only" means "single" and "Begotten" means "to procreate or sire as a father sires a son." Many speak of their creations as "brain-childs" and the Word of God refers to the creations by God as "sons" in that sense. But these creations by God are His "brain-childs;" He did not give birth to them. He gave birth to Jesus Christ, His Only Begotten Son, and John 3: 16 states that fact very plainly. Incidentally, this verse has been called "The whole Gospel in a nutshell." I do not know who first made that statement, but he also said that everything else in the Word of God is "just commentary." I can relate to that!
I honestly do not know what makes me think that I can add anything to that verse by way of more "commentary," but I believe with my whole heart, soul, and mind that God called me to do just that. He has instructed me every step of the way as to what He wants me to write.
I sincerely believe that those who have come to the Lord will say, "Amen," to all that I have written. I hope those of you who do not know the Lord will come to know Him or all my research and years of study will have been in vain. God wanted me to expose the modus operandi (method of operation) of Satan through the countless alleged Christian organizations he is raising up in these last days. What He taught me is amazing! Incidentally, I used examples from a few cults with which I am most familiar, but these examples are the same old half-truths that pop up in all Satan’s religions.
Actually, Satan is not particularly original or imaginative. He uses the same
M. O. today that He used to tempt Eve, and why not? It still works. He appeals to man’s pride. He whispers in our itching ears that we will be like God, if we believe him instead of the inspired Word of God. Keep in mind that his goal is to destroy us and separate us from God the Father forever. To accomplish that, he needs to do ONLY ONE THING! All he needs to do is to convince us that Jesus Christ is not Jehovah come in the flesh, and persuade us that we do not need to believe in the "Only Begotten Son of God" to be saved. If you do not believe in Him, you cannot be saved. AND SATAN SCREAMS IN TRIUMPH, "GOTCHA!"
I could not possibly discuss all the antichrist organizations popping up all over the world, but I am going to discuss the most dangerous ideas they promote to deceive the unwary, who really have not studied Scripture enough to "know better." Especially, since Satan quotes Scripture freely out of context to make his case.
Some of the identities that Satan has assigned to Christ to downgrade Him to a lower status than the "Only Begotten Son" include: He is the archangel, Michael, although all angels are creations by the Watchtower; He is an impersonal God (The Father is a principal; The Son is revealed in His plan; and the Holy Spirit is the executive power to carry out the plan.) taught by Unitarians. He is just one of many sons of God taught by Herbert Armstrong and the Mormons. They claim that we are all sons of God--not creatures or creations by God. They teach that we will be equal to God the Father in the resurrection and do not need to accept Jesus Christ as Our Lord and Master to be reunited with the Father. Did I not tell you that Satan is still using the same lie to deceive all men that he used to deceive Eve in the Garden of Eden? You do know what happened to Eve, I presume.
Armstrong and the Mormons also deny the Person of the Holy Ghost. They contend that He is just a power or force through which God operates. So, why did Jesus say blasphemy of the Holy Ghost is the ONLY SIN THAT CANNOT BE FORGIVEN? Watch it, My Friend. You may be walking in that mine field, if you fall for lies about the Holy Spirit.
On the other hand, Satan tries to make all of us believe--especially Christians—(Billy Graham said that his father was a victim of this lie.) is that we have blasphemed the Holy Spirit and we are in a hopeless state. He then tries to convince us that we might as well eat, drink, and be merry while we live, because tomorrow we die and will be separated from God forever. I do not want to discuss this particular lie at this point, but I mention it now, because I do not want you to think you have already blasphemed the Holy Spirit just because I am warning you not to walk in that mine field. In fact, it takes willful and knowledgeable rejection of the Spirit of Truth without repentance to blaspheme Him. Nevertheless, we must be most careful about questioning the Holy Ghost.
I have discussed the matter of blasphemy as the Lord revealed it to me in other Parts of this work. In the meantime, I will continue. Theosophists, Buddhists, and Hindus believe all men are divine and will eventually--through many reincarnations-- become gods or "Avatars." The idea is that men learn lessons in each of hundreds or even thousands of reincarnations until they become worthy to be reunited with the One Perfect Entity, which they call, "achieving Nirvana." The debts they accumulate in each life (the sins they commit against their fellowmen in that life) are called Karmic debts, which they are required to pay by having to "walk in the moccasins" of the one they hurt in their succeeding "lives."
In other words, this philosophy teaches men that they can save themselves, or pull themselves up by their own bootstraps, so to speak. Karma is also called the Law that cannot be broken. The whole idea is a concoction in the mind of Satan that appeals to man’s pride. Men want to believe that they are in total control of their destiny.
Pride begins at a very early age. I doubt very much if any parent can deny that at one time or another he or she has tussled with a two-year-old child, who insisted, "I want to do it myself!" Naturally, the child is incapable of doing it himself, but he screams, if anyone tries to help him, until he gives up or falls asleep. Pride is a sin, and a very serious handicap, but we are all guilty. I believe that pride is the most difficult sin to recognize in ourselves, and that it is the last sin that most of us conquer.
Because both Buddhists and Hindus believe that everyone who suffers deserves to suffer, because of sins committed in former lives, they do not think that anyone should interfere with the sufferer’s predicament. For that reason, disease, hunger, moral and spiritual decay, as well as idol worship, stalks wherever these two great religions hold sway. Probably, three-fourths of the world’s population believe that reincarnations are facts of life and that karmic debts must be paid.
Unfortunately, the plan also appeals to man’s idea of justice. How many men have been persecuted, tortured, and seriously oppressed who would not like to see their persecutor suffer the same torment? But Jesus taught that those of us who are unwilling to forgive everyone shall suffer the torment of being separated from God. We must forgive or we cannot be forgiven. See Matthew 6:12-15.
Fortunately, Jesus also taught that there is a way out, whether you sinned in one life or many. He paid all our debts and paid for all our sins, whether we accumulated them in one life or many. So, do not argue the point. The question of reincarnation is irrelevant and irreverent. Is that not so?
Father Divine has proclaimed himself to be God saying He created the Universe as recorded in Genesis. Father Divine was born in the United States as George Baker in 1877, and died on September 10, l965 in Philadelphia. He founded the Peace Mission movement in 1919, according to the Encyclopaedia Britannica. I mention him because he managed to deceive so many, and because the organization owned more than $10,000,000.00 in property when he died. Operative words here are, "he died," and he did not rise again.
Naturally, his organization quickly disintegrated, as did those of others who made such false claims.
Even at the time of the Apostles, Gamaliel, an influential Pharisee, brought up the subject of false prophet to the other Pharisees following the death of Jesus. The Pharisees were determined to punish the Apostles who were preaching that Jesus arose from the dead, and they had apprehended them.
Gamaliel was a high priest among the Pharisees and he gave this advice to his colleagues in Acts 5: 35-39; ... "Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men. For before these days rose up Theuddas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to nought.
"After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of the taxing, and drew away much people after him; he also perished; all even as many as obeyed him, were dispersed.
"And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men it will come to nought: But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God."
The other Pharisees agreed to Gamaliel’s appeal and after beating the Apostles, they let them continue preaching the Gospel. The point is that antichrists have existed in the world ever since the beginning, and they always pretend to be gods or promise that their followers can become gods, or that all men are gods. That is Satan’s most pervasive lie, and he tells it to convince all men that they are on the same level as Jesus Christ Himself, or convince all men that Jesus Christ is just another man on the same level as all other men. Incidentally, did Christianity die with the death of Jesus Christ?
A second point that I want to make is that the Pharisees accepted Gamaliel’s advice, because they knew that Jesus Christ could be the Messiah. They believed He could be the Son of God. They believed He could be God Himself among them. They were afraid to disagree with Gamaliel. If they were afraid of the consequences of questioning the Deity of Jesus Christ, and they knew Scripture forwards, backwards, and upside down and did not need an interpreter or translator to understand it, then who are we to question?
Spiritualists deny the Deity of Christ and say that we are all sons of God. Christian Scientists say God is "life," "mind," "love," "substance," and many other descriptions that Emerson might have called an "over soul," which all men can tap into to be healed, gain wisdom, have power to love others, and perform miracles by just believing that one could. They deny that God takes a personal interest in men’s affairs, that Jesus Christ is Lord God Jehovah in the flesh, and that The Holy Ghost is a person.
Nowhere in all Scripture can one find support for the philosophy that God is just some kind of force, a God who is just way up there and doesn’t care. Where in Scripture does it say that you can "just believe" that you can control your environment without asking God in prayer to intercede in your affairs? My Bible says that we must ask for faith itself, so that we can believe that He will intercede!
BEWARE OF THE MOST INSIDUOUS MOVEMENT OF ALL BEING CURRENTLY PROMOTED BY SATAN. The M. O. has not changed, but Satan has increased his activity many times over. That movement is misnamed the "New Age" and is related to Astrology, the oldest religion in the world. This so-called "Age of Aquarius" allegedly will last 2000 years, and begins in the next Millenium. The age that allegedly just ended is called the "Age of Pisces." Jesus Christ is called the avatar of the "Age of Pisces" or the "Age of the Fishes," and Satan is setting the stage for a new prophet, a "new avatar," which he says will bring in a New Age of unprecedented peace and prosperity. That alleged avatar will, in fact, be Satan himself, the son of perdition, whom Jesus Christ predicted would be the Antichrist of all antichrists.
The Bahai religion is another antichrist organization, which has won many converts, tragically among Christians. The Bahai’s also recognize Jesus as a manifestation of God the Father, but He must share the spotlight with other so-called true prophets, whom they claim are of equal or superior status.
Incidentally, all "avatars" are considered to be manifestations of God the Father who have achieved Nirvana, and are regarded to be "Master Teachers" or "Master Guides" from the Spirit realm. They allegedly can appear in dreams or be met in out-of-body experiences as the result of taking drugs. Any thoughtful person should see that these practices are dangerous and can lead to madness, if not death. These avatars may tell you things that you want to hear, but the source of that information is definitely Satanic, and sooner or later, a plot to destroy you.
The Bahai’s recognize as being great prophets (equal to Jesus Christ), Moses, Mohammed, Zoroaster, Buddha (who on his deathbed lamented that he knew that he had not achieved Nirvana), Confucius, Krishna, Lao, and their own prophet, whom they claim to be the latest and greatest of all, Baha’u’llah.
I had a personal experience with Bahai’s as a child living in Chicago. You will find an account of this experience in PART III of this work under the heading of "KNOW YOUR ENEMY." The story is called, "Love Begins at Home." Actually, Bahai’s have more to say about "love" than Jesus did, if you count verbosity on the subject. However, the true account of my personal experience makes you wonder, if they apply the term to their personal lives or just want to promote the idea of "love" among nations to end war, and they know nothing about God’s love or agape in their personal relationships.
Unfortunately, unconditional love can not be promoted, it can only be demonstrated and desired because of the success of the demonstrators. The only ones who have freely demonstrated agape or unconditional love have been Christians led by the Holy Spirit. They have done so by building schools, hospitals, orphanages, homes for unwed mothers, shelters for the homeless, soup kitchens for the hungry, and by sacrificing their lives to go to the ends of the earth teaching and preaching the Gospel. They have also provided for the physical needs of the inhabitants of peoples suffering from oppression, poverty, and all kinds of diseases, and despair.
Christians are recognized by their love, which they demonstrate by their works and generous contributions. How many other religions have a comparable record?
If you want to know which organizations are raised up by God the Father and not by Satan, look for the fruits of the Holy Spirit manifested by the followers which are: love, peace, joy, faith, longsuffering (infinite patience) meekness (teachable, or willingness to listen) gentleness, goodness, and temperance (self-control).
Unfortunately, few Christians exhibit all of these fruits at one time. But if they read the word and submit themselves to the teachings of the Holy Spirit, one can usually observe a decided change in that direction right away. I have written many poems and stories about "love" and how it is manifested by true believers in a book,
Pot Pourrie, under the headings, "Sweet Mystery of Love," and "The Futility of the Law without Love." Confusion about what it means to love as Christ commanded results from a desire to serve one’s self instead of God. All Christians are guilty at one time or another and they are guilty, because of fear, more often or not. They forget that the Word says, "Love casts out fear."
An old saying is: "Charity begins at home." The word for "Agape" is God’s Word for unconditional love that has to do with concern for the welfare of all others, including one’s worst enemies, and even those whom you have no positive feelings for, whatsoever. The word "Agape" is translated as "Charity" in I Corinthians 13, because that chapter is a definition of love that describes actions or behavior instead of how one feels. Since most of us think of "charity" as giving money as donations to the needy, and not as the love that God gives, we fail to realize that God’s love must begin at home, too.
The fruits of the Spirit must be demonstrated in the home where they are coveted by one’s children and learned by them from their parents before they can be demonstrated outside the home. In addition to the fruits of the Spirit, faithful Christians should be able to demonstrate the Gifts of the Spirit, if Satan has not convinced them that these gifts are "not for today."
The nine gifts are 1. Gift of healing, 2.Gift of prophecy, 3.Gift of tongues,
4. Gift of wisdom to solve "impossible" problems 5. Gift of knowledge that cannot be gained through natural means, 6. Gift of interpretation of tongues 7. Gift of discerning of spirits, 8. Gift of miracles, and 9. Gift of faith. These gifts and fruits can be demonstrated (anyone can talk about them or describe them) by those who have the Holy Spirit living within them. Only Jesus Christ can share the Holy Ghost with others, and He shares it only with those who accept Him as their Lord and Master.
Keep in mind that these modern clubs that claim to be superior to the Church (true members of the Body of Christ regardless of what denomination they belong to) are teaching false doctrine if they preach that Jesus Christ is just one dispensation of the truth. In Hebrews 13: 8, you can see for yourself that "He is the same yesterday, today, and forever." Jesus Christ is the Only Begotten Son of God and the Only One who can legitimately declare as reported in John 14: 6, "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life: no man cometh unto the Father but by Me." Believe that and receive the gift of life forever. Amen. Maranatha!
